Own label chocolate for a UK retailer: the label, step by step

The UK trade uses four names for one job. The job is a pack that clears, sells and says the right thing. Here is how it is built from Gaziantep.

Four names, one job

Own label and own brand are the retailer’s words: the store’s name on the pack. Private label is the brand owner’s word for the same thing. White label is the generic version, a product the producer already makes, offered to several sellers who each put a name on it. The white label private label difference is whether anything was chosen for you, a recipe, a weight, a pack. The UK label does not care which one you meant; it needs the same content either way. The UK own label page lists the formats.

Step one: the data sheet

Every line on the label comes from our technical data sheet: ingredients in descending order, allergens, nutrition values, shelf life, storage, and the name the recipe is entitled to. Nothing is written from memory or copied from another pack. The sheet comes with the quotation, before any artwork exists.

Step two: the UK content

We prepare the mandatory text: the name of the food, the ingredient list with allergens emphasised in the list itself, the nutrition declaration, the net quantity in metric units, best-before wording and storage, and the name and address of the UK food business responsible for the product, which is the retailer or the importer. You place the content in your artwork; if you have your own regulatory reviewer, our content is checked against theirs.

Step three: the name of the food

UK chocolate composition rules define names such as milk chocolate and family milk chocolate by their cocoa and milk content. A compound coating, cocoa with vegetable fat instead of cocoa butter, cannot be sold as chocolate. The name on your artwork is checked against the recipe on the data sheet, so a pistachio tablet is sold as what it is. The chocolate or compound article explains the difference.

Step four: artwork approval

You send the artwork, we check it against the label content and you approve the final version in writing. Nothing is printed before that, and a change after approval is a new approval. The pack that lands at Felixstowe is the pack you signed.

Step five: production and the container

We run the line at the minimum stated in the offer; we check and photograph the pallets. An own-label line can share the container with lines in our standard packs, each on its own pallet, so a first order is a mixed container rather than one product in bulk. The container leaves Mersin with the document set for the UK entry, including the origin proof under the UK–Türkiye trade agreement. The private label brand article covers the business side.

How to start

Start with the chocolate page: pick the lines, say how many and name the port. The written offer follows within two working days and states what each line weighs by the carton and what the minimum is.

Tasting first is normal — samples are free from running production, you cover the courier. The united kingdom: what stays the same on every offer page lists what stays the same on every offer, and the own label for uk brands page covers putting your own name on the pack.

Who is responsible for the label being correct?

The UK food business named on the pack, the retailer or the importer. We prepare the content from our data sheet and check the artwork; you approve it in writing.

Can a compound product be called chocolate in the UK?

No. Names such as milk chocolate are defined by composition; a compound coating is named as such. We check the name against the recipe before printing.

Can one container carry own-label and lines in our standard packs?

Yes. Each line travels on its own pallet, and the minimum per line is stated in the offer.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.

Send your product list with approximate quantities and the destination port. You get one offer covering every line, then one container, loaded and photographed before the doors close.
