Private label

What is private label chocolate, and how is it different from white label?

Two terms, one question: whose name is on the pack, and who decided what is inside. Here is the difference, and how a private-label run from Gaziantep actually comes together.

Private label, in one sentence

Private label chocolate is chocolate made by a producer and sold under a retailer’s or brand’s own name. The brand owns the name and the artwork; the producer owns the recipe, the line and the certificates. The buyer gets a product it could not make itself, without building a factory.

Retailers use it to fill a shelf with their own range. Distributors use it to have something their competitors cannot buy. Online brands use it to launch fast. In every case the product exists first, and the brand is put on it afterwards.

White label: the same idea, one step more generic

White label is usually the narrower term. A white-label product is a standard item that the producer already makes, offered to several buyers who each put their own name on it. Nothing in the recipe changes; only the label. Private label can go further: a chosen filling, a different weight, a pack format, a nutrition panel prepared for a specific market.

In practice the two words are used loosely, and buyers searching for a white label chocolate manufacturer want the same thing as those searching for a private label one: a product they can sell under their brand, at a minimum they can live with.

What the brand brings, what the producer brings

  • The brand brings the name, the artwork, the market and the label rules of that market. In the United States that means an English label, the allergen declaration and a nutrition panel.
  • The producer brings the recipe, the production line, the food-safety system and the certificates that go with it. Certificates are issued for our factory, not the brand’s.
  • The exporter brings the coordination: which line can carry a private label, at what minimum, with which documents, and how it travels.
On this site, private label is open on selected lines and always as one of our core services. We do not print anything before the artwork is approved in writing.

How a private-label run works from Türkiye

  1. Lines and formats. You name the products from the product pages and the pack format: tablet box, bar wrapper, doypack, gift box, Turkish delight box or jar.
  2. Producer confirmation. We confirm which of those lines can be made under your brand, at what minimum and in what lead time. The answer goes into the written offer.
  3. Label content. We prepare the label content from our technical data sheet to your market’s rules. You place it in your artwork.
  4. Approval. You approve the final artwork in writing. Only then is anything printed.
  5. Production and shipping. We run the line in our factory, load the container, photograph the pallets and ship.

The full sequence is on the how we work page.

Where private label from Türkiye makes sense

It makes sense when the product itself is the point: pistachio chocolate, Turkish delight, coated dragées, pistachio spread. These are things a US co-packer does not make from local tradition, and a Gaziantep producer makes every day. It makes less sense for a plain milk chocolate bar that any domestic plant can run; there, the freight and the container minimum work against you.

The other reason is range. One container can carry a private-label chocolate line next to Turkish delight and dragées, from our own factory, on one order and one set of documents. A brand that wants a small Turkish range under its own name gets it in one shipment.

Is private label the same as contract manufacturing?

Close. Contract manufacturing usually means the buyer specifies the product in detail and the producer makes it to that specification. Private label often starts from the producer’s existing product and changes the pack. Both end with your name on the label.

Who owns the recipe?

The producer. You own the brand and the artwork. If you need an exclusive recipe, say so at the start; it changes the minimum and the lead time.

Can a first order be one product?

The unit of sale is one full container, but it can mix your private-label line with other lines from the same factory, so a first order does not need to be one product in bulk.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.

Send your product list with approximate quantities and the destination port. You get one offer covering every line, then one container, loaded and photographed before the doors close.
