Bulk buying chocolate in the UK: the consumer pack, the trade case, and which one we quote

British searches for bulk chocolate and bulk food come from two different people: a household after a bigger pack, and a trade buyer after a case to resell or repack. Only the second one has a carton specification behind it. This is what that specification says, which lines from Gaziantep travel that way, and where the line is drawn between confectionery and cocoa.

Two things share one word

In Britain bulk covers two purchases that share a search box. One is the household version: a bigger pack for a lower price per unit, the bulk food cupboard, the warehouse club card. The other is trade: a shop, a wholesaler, a hamper packer or a fundraising group buying a case to resell or to repack. Type bulk buying chocolate into a search bar and both come back on the same page, which is why the results feel muddled. We sit on the trade side only. We do not sell a single carton to a household; the sweet shop filling a pick and mix tub is the kind of buyer our cartons end up serving, through the importer that brings them in.

What a trade case actually is

On the trade side a case has a described shape, and that description is what a buyer prices against:

Which lines travel this way

What leaves Gaziantep in trade cases is finished confectionery: moulded and enrobed bulk chocolate bars and bites, chocolate dragées and sugared almonds, jelly sweets, hard candy, and Turkish delight in retail boxes or cut for the tub. Two things the offer settles line by line. A coating made with vegetable fat is not chocolate and is not called chocolate, so each line says plainly whether it is chocolate or compound. And lines travel with our halal certificate, with the offer naming the certifying body per line so the buyer can check it is recognised — on a gelatine-set jelly that is the deciding detail, and lines made without gelatine say so on the data sheet. Pistachio goes into jars as a spread, the product British buyers search for as pistachio cream or pistachio butter.

Cocoa is a different aisle

The same UK searches that ask about bulk chocolate ask, in almost equal number, about bulk cocoa and wholesale cocoa. The honest answer is that this is not our aisle. Cocoa beans, cocoa mass, cocoa butter and cocoa powder are not our lines, and neither is chocolate sold loose by the kilo or couverture in blocks and callets. Those are sourced on request; we confirm composition and format before quoting. What we ship every week is finished, packed confectionery from the product range. If your enquiry is really about raw cocoa, a bean trader will serve you better than we will.

The unit of sale is a container

One full container, mixed: several lines from our factory in a single load, each line on its own pallet, with one set of documents and one invoice. Terms are FCA Gaziantep, FOB Mersin, CIF or DAP, priced in US dollars, and the written offer comes back within two working days. Payment is half with the order and the balance before the container leaves, against the loading photographs. Chocolate moves in a reefer through the warm months; Turkish delight, sugared almonds and jelly sweets travel dry. On the import side the UK buyer is the food business operator: the label, the entry and the checks are held by the importer, not by us, and the offer states the tariff line and the duty that applies on the day so your broker has something to file against. The mixed container page shows how the load is built; how we work covers the rest.

What to send

The lines you want from the chocolate page, the dragée page and the Turkish delight page, roughly how much of each, and the delivery point. Samples come free from running production with the courier at your cost, and the own label page covers putting a British brand name on the pack.

Do you sell to consumers buying in bulk?

No. The unit of sale is one full container, mixed, each line on its own pallet. Households and single-carton buyers are served by the UK importers and wholesalers who buy from us.

What does a bulk carton specification state?

The lined carton and its inner format, the weight of the inner unit, cases per layer and layers per pallet, and a price for that line on its own.

Do you supply bulk cocoa, chocolate by the kilo or couverture?

They are not our lines. They are sourced on request; we confirm composition and format before quoting. Our regular business is finished, packed confectionery.

Is everything halal certified?

Lines travel with our halal certificate, and the offer names the certifying body per line so the buyer can check it is recognised. On gelatine-set lines this is the deciding detail; lines made without gelatine say so on the data sheet.

Who is responsible for the UK import side?

The importer, as the food business operator: the label, the entry and the checks sit with them. The offer states the tariff line and the duty that applies on the day.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.
