Dubai chocolate in Lebanon: the bar behind the searches, and where the pistachio comes from

The bar arrived in Beirut the way it arrived everywhere, through a phone screen, and the chocolate houses answered it within weeks with bars of their own. Here is what the bar is, why most of the filling comes from Gaziantep, and what an importer and a chocolatier each buy. The offer states per line whether the coating is real chocolate or a compound, which changes both the price and what the label may call it.

The bar

A thick milk chocolate shell filled with pistachio cream and toasted kadayif, the shredded pastry Lebanon knows from its own sweets. The name comes from the city where it went viral; the filling comes from further north. Pistachio is grown around Gaziantep and kadayif is made there in the same streets, which is why we were making pistachio and kadayif fillings long before the bar had a name, and why the bar is now made there in retail, gift and catering formats.

Two ways into Lebanon

The first is the finished bar under a Turkish brand, for the supermarket and the minimarket, which is where the price searches go. The second is the filling: the Beirut chocolate houses that make their own bar buy the pistachio cream and the kadayif filling in bulk and pour their own shells, and the same factory that fills the retail bar supplies the cream in pails and jars. The chocolate page lists the bar; the pistachio page lists the cream.

The price question

For a shopper the price is set by the shop; for an importer it is in the offer: the price per bar in US dollars, the case count, the pallet plan, the tariff line and the duty that applies on the day. Nothing that changes with the exchange rate or the season is printed on this site. A bar that lands by the pallet and sits on a supermarket shelf is a different product, at a different price, from a bar made by hand in a chocolate house, and Lebanon has room for both.

What the Lebanese entry needs

Arabic on the label, with the ingredient list and allergens, net weight, production and expiry dates and the importer’s name; our certificates and analysis report per line; and a reefer in the warm months, because the crossing from Mersin is short but the bar is chocolate. The Lebanon page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Under whose name

In our standard packs from the first container, or under your own brand: the Lebanese private label page goes through the formats, the label content and the artwork approval. A chocolate house that wants its own name on a bar it does not have to temper itself has a producer for it.

What to send first

The lines from the chocolate page, the dragée page and the Turkish delight page, the quantity per line, the port, Beirut or Tripoli, and whether any line carries your own brand. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars; the samples page explains how to taste the lines first, and the Lebanon page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Every line here is made in our own factory at Başpınar OSB, Gaziantep — a 10,000 m² site, exporting since 2002 — and certificate copies are available on request.

Is Dubai chocolate made in Dubai?

The name comes from where it went viral. The pistachio and the kadayif come from around Gaziantep, and the bars and fillings we quote are made there.

Do you sell the filling on its own?

Yes: pistachio cream in jars and pails, and the kadayif filling, from us, in the formats the offer states.

Does the bar need a reefer?

In the warm months, yes; the offer states the season and the term.

How to order
