Importing chocolate from Türkiye to India: what the supplier side looks like

A buyer bringing in a container wants to know what they must hold and what the supplier must send before a container clears at Nhava Sheva. Here is the split, without the numbers that change. Nothing about duty is printed on this site because it changes; the offer states the tariff line per product and what applies on the day.

Who holds what

The Indian importer holds the food authority’s import licence, presents the goods to the authority’s inspection at the port and answers for the label on the market. The Turkish producer does not register in India. That splits the work: the importer builds its licence and its file; the supplier sends what that file needs so the file points at the right plant. The details change; the offer states what applies on the day.

The label, and the vegetarian mark

The importer’s label carries the ingredient list and allergens, the nutrition table, the vegetarian or non-vegetarian mark, metric net quantity, and the importer’s name, address and licence number, with the retail price and the month of import added by the importer. The mark is the point most foreign suppliers miss: chocolate, sugared almonds and starch-set Turkish delight are usually vegetarian by recipe, jellies and some dragée glazes may not be, and the data sheet decides per product before printing. The Indian private label page goes through it.

The duty question

Chocolate import duty India is one of the most searched phrases in the category, and the honest answer is that it changes and is not printed here. There is no free trade agreement between India and Türkiye; the offer states the tariff line for each product and the duty that applies on the day, so the importer knows the landed cost before ordering. Anyone who prints a rate on a website is printing a number that will be wrong.

Documents, the route and the reefer

Commercial invoice, packing list per pallet, certificate of origin, analysis report and, for pistachio lines, an aflatoxin certificate, listed on the how we work page, with copies of our certificates on request. Sea freight from Mersin to Nhava Sheva, Mundra or Chennai crosses the tropics in every season, so chocolate lines are quoted in a reefer year round; Turkish delight, sugared almonds and jellies travel dry. Each line has its own pallet; the mixed-container page explains how the load is built.

Starting an imported chocolate business

The searches say it plainly: how to start imported chocolate business, imported chocolate business in India. The supplier’s side of that answer is a mixed container: lines in our standard packs that sell on sight, the pistachio end that sells on the name Gaziantep, dragées for the hamper trade, each on its own pallet, so the first order tests a range rather than betting on one bar. The India page lists what stays the same on every offer.

What to send first

The product references, the quantity per line, the port, whether any line carries your own brand and whether the list must be vegetarian throughout. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars,, the certificate holder and the data sheet named per line.

Does the producer need Indian registration?
