Importing chocolate and confectionery to Uganda from Türkiye: conformity, the standards check, Mombasa and the road to Kampala

An importer wants to know what to hold and what the supplier must send before a container clears at the coast and reaches Kampala. Here is the split from the supplier’s side, with the inspection first, because it happens before the container is closed.

The conformity certificate

Before shipment, the inspection agency appointed for Türkiye inspects the goods and issues the certificate of conformity that the Ugandan entry asks for; on arrival the goods are checked against the Ugandan standard. We arrange the inspection with the agency, the offer states what it needs per line and what it costs, and nothing is loaded that cannot clear. The agency visits a plant, not a trading company, which is one more reason every line is specified in the offer, and a plant it has seen before is inspected faster the second time.

Who holds what

The importer holds the import clearance and the registration with the authorities, and clears the consignment at Mombasa or Dar es Salaam before the inland leg. As the Turkish producer we do not register in Uganda; we supply the technical data sheet, our certificates and the analysis report per line, sent before the deposit so the importer’s side runs first. Where a certificate is asked for that we do not hold, the offer says so before the deposit.

The label

An English label: the name of the food, the ingredient list with allergens, metric net weight, storage, the production and expiry dates and the importer’s name and address. For lines in our standard packs we confirm what the export pack carries and what the importer adds; for private label we prepare the content, and the date format is confirmed on the artwork before printing. The Ugandan private label page goes through it.

Customs, documents and the two legs

Uganda applies the East African common external tariff and there is no free trade agreement with Türkiye; the offer states the tariff line per product and the duty that applies on the day, and nothing about duty is printed on this site. The commercial set is the invoice, the packing list per pallet, the certificate of origin, the certificate of conformity, the analysis report and, for pistachio lines, an aflatoxin certificate, listed on the how we work page. Sea freight from Mersin to Mombasa or Dar es Salaam, then inland to Kampala under transit by road or rail; the offer states both legs, the term and where the reefer chain ends.

The reefer, the road and the two shelves

Chocolate lines are quoted in a reefer to the port and need a cool chain on the road, and are stated as chocolate; compound-coated lines that go to the duka shelf are stated as compound and travel dry; Turkish delight, sugared almonds and jellies travel dry. An importer that has cleared our lines once clears the next lines faster, because the data sheets and the inspection history are already on file. The mixed-container page explains how the load is built, and the Uganda page lists what stays the same on every offer.

What to send

A first message is short: references from the product pages, quantities, port. The offer that comes back is not — it carries the specification, the pallet plan and the minimum, line by line.

Samples are free from our running production and the courier is paid before dispatch. The uganda: what stays the same on every offer page lists what stays the same on every offer, and the private label page covers putting your own name on the pack.

Does the Turkish producer register in Uganda?

No. The importer holds the import clearance and the registration; we supply the data sheet, certificates and analysis report per line, named in the offer.

Who arranges the conformity certificate?

We do, with the appointed agency, before shipment; the offer states what it needs per line and what it costs.

How does the container reach Kampala?

It clears at Mombasa or Dar es Salaam and travels inland under transit by road or rail; the offer states the route, the term and where the reefer chain ends.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.

Send your product list with approximate quantities and the destination port. You get one offer covering every line, then one container, loaded and photographed before the doors close.
