In North Macedonia, Turkish confectionery is already the first source

A buyer here does not need Turkish confectionery explained. On the most recent full year, Türkiye was the first source of North Macedonia's sugar confectionery imports — 20.97 per cent of a market of about 13.9 million dollars, a fifth of the heading. Few markets on this site show a standing that plain. So the first conversation is not about origin. It is about which line, at which finish, under whose label.

Home  /  Blog  /  The origin question is closed here; the line and the label are not.  ·

Two headings, two standings

Sugar confectionery is the smaller heading — roughly 13.9 million dollars — and the one where the origin question is settled. Türkiye stands first, on 20.97 per cent.

Chocolate is far larger, about 61.8 million dollars, and there the standing changes completely — eighth place, 2.63 per cent. Same origin, same border, different shelf. The first number does not produce the second. But a chocolate line does arrive with the origin already familiar to whoever decides the listing.

Where the existing trade already sits

Share hides the part that decides the conversation. The Turkish confectionery already crossing this border does so at around 3.78 dollars a kilo — the volume end of the heading, sold by weight. On the chocolate side the recorded Turkish average is 5.08 dollars a kilo.

This range is positioned above that trade, not against it. Whole-pistachio and double-roasted lokum, the kadayıf line, the pistachio-and-kadayıf filled bar in the Dubai style — a different item, not a cheaper version of the same thing.

The jar is a spread, not a pastry paste

The pistachio jar is searched for under names that translate as cream or paste, and that name causes trouble at quotation stage. What ships is a spread — a jar for retail and the breakfast shelf. It is not a pistachio paste at 100 per cent for pastry work and should not be offered to a pastry kitchen as one.

Pure paste and couverture in bulk are not in the core range; they can be supplied on request, with the producer confirming composition and format before a quotation.

Coatings, labels and whose certificates

A coating made with vegetable fat is not named chocolate; it is declared as a cocoa glaze. Which one a line carries is stated in the offer, not guessed from a photograph — that entry governs the wording on the pack and the declaration at the border.

North Macedonia is not an EU member, so the country's own food and customs rules apply and the importer files the declaration. Certificates are issued for our factory; copies are available on request. The quotation states what applies on the day it is issued.

One container, minimum per line

The selling unit is a full container or full truck; no part loads. The minimum is set per line and written into the offer — not per container. That is what makes a mixed load work: a first order carries six or seven references in measured quantity, each on its own pallet under a single packing list.

Chocolate and chocolate-coated lines move at +18 to +20 °C, so a refrigerated container is offered in the hot months; if a dry one is preferred, that risk passes to the buyer in writing, before loading. Lokum, sugared almonds, dragées and gelled sweets travel dry all year.

What to send

Send the references with a quantity against each, the delivery address, and whether the goods go to pre-packed retail or a weigh-out counter — that decides the carton first. Say if a line runs under your own label: it is drawn from our technical specification, and nothing goes to print without written approval. The written offer follows within two working days, line by line, with specification, allergens, net weight, carton and pallet data, minimum and tariff heading. Payment is 50 per cent at order and 50 before the container leaves, against loading photographs.

If Türkiye is already the first source, what is left to sell?

Finish and format, rather than origin. The existing position is carried at the volume end of the heading, around 3.78 dollars a kilo. Whole-pistachio and double-roasted lokum, the kadayıf line and the pistachio-and-kadayıf filled bar sit above that — a different item, and usually one the same buyer is not yet listing.

Is the pistachio jar suitable for a pastry kitchen?

It is sold as a spread for retail, not as a pistachio paste at 100 per cent for pastry work. Pure paste and couverture in bulk are not in the core range; they can be supplied on request, with the producer confirming composition and format before a quotation is issued.

What is needed on the customs side?

North Macedonia is not an EU member, so the country's own food and customs rules apply and the importer files the declaration. From our side each line ships with our technical specification, ingredients and allergens, net weight, carton and pallet data and the tariff heading, and certificates are issued for our factory. The quotation states what applies on the day it is issued.
