The favour
Five sugared almonds in tulle is the oldest wedding favour in the Mediterranean, and Irish weddings adopted it long ago, first through the Italian and Greek families that settled in Ireland and then through the wedding trade itself. Today the favour company sells the almonds by colour to match the table, chocolate dragées in milk and dark for the couples who do not want almonds, and mini bars and boxed Turkish delight for the ones who want something else. The dragée page lists the groups.
By colour, by the carton
Sugared almonds come one colour per carton or mixed, in the whites, ivories and pastels the wedding trade asks for; chocolate dragées in a matching range. The case weight per line is stated in the offer, so a favour company knows how many tables a carton dresses before it orders. The goods travel with the A.TR certificate under the customs union, and the label follows the EU rules.
Who buys the container
A favour company buys by the carton from a confectionery wholesaler or an importer; the importer fills the container. Because the container is mixed, dragées travel on their own pallet next to chocolate, Turkish delight and sweets, so a wholesaler that serves the wedding trade can add the favour lines to an order it was making anyway. A large favour company registered as a food business is quoted like an importer.
Timing and the season
Wedding favours are ordered months ahead and delivered weeks ahead, and a container from Mersin takes its own time, so a favour company plans the colours for a season, not for a wedding. The wholesaler that imports for it orders the whites and ivories that sell all year in quantity, and the pastels of the coming season in smaller cartons, and the offer states the case weight so the split is easy to make. Sugared almonds keep well and travel dry all year; the chocolate dragées are quoted in the reefer for the warm months, and the goods travel with the A.TR certificate under the customs union.
Under your own name
Favour bags, window boxes and doypacks can carry the favour company’s brand on selected lines; the Irish private label page explains the formats and the artwork approval. Sugared almonds travel dry all year; the chocolate dragées go in the reefer with the chocolate lines in the warm months.
What to send first
The lines from the chocolate page, the dragée page and the Turkish delight page, the quantity per line, the port, Dublin or Cork, and whether any line carries your own brand. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars and the A.TR paperwork listed; the samples page explains how to taste the lines first, and the Ireland page lists what stays the same on every offer.
Every line here is made in our own factory at Başpınar OSB, Gaziantep — a 10,000 m² site, exporting since 2002 — and certificate copies are available on request.
Can a favour company order directly?
The unit of sale is one full container, mixed across lines. A favour company buys by the carton from the importer or wholesaler; one registered as a food business that pools a container is quoted like an importer.
Which colours?
One colour per carton or mixed, in the range the wedding trade asks for; the offer lists the colours and the case weight per line.
Do sugared almonds need a reefer?
No, they travel dry. Chocolate dragées travel in the reefer with the chocolate lines in the warm months.
