Few loadings, three islands: why the box has to be wide

Comoros took in about $1.5 million of chocolate and confectionery in 2023 — the smallest table in this part of the region. An archipelago reached by transshipment is not called at often, so the loads in a year are few and each is asked to do more. Which turns the opening question into an assortment one: how many lines can share a single box, and at what minimum each of them runs.

Home  /  Blog  /  An archipelago reached by transshipment is loaded rarely, so the question that decides a first order is how many lines can travel in one box rather than how many pallets of one.  ·

The smallest table in the region, and what it settles

Read alone, $1.5 million across a year looks like a door barely open. Read as a brief it rules something out: no shelf here absorbs a load of one article, and a supplier offering tonnage is describing another country.

A table this size supports an importer carrying several categories who cannot leave money standing in any of them. Chocolate, dragée, Turkish delight and wrapped confectionery on one bill of lading, each in a quantity matched to how fast it turns over in a shop. A first order here is counted in lines, not pallets.

Frequency is the constraint worth designing around

The route sets the rhythm. Cargo runs from Gaziantep to Mersin, about three hours by road, and sails from there; but the call is not direct, so a transshipment port sits mid-voyage and is named in the offer with the port of discharge.

Fewer workable loading windows follow, and no transit figure is needed to see what that costs. When loadings are infrequent, a line left off the packing list waits for the next one — which is why a first order is negotiated on the packing list, not the price list.

One entry, then three islands

Clearance is one event; distribution is a second. Goods arriving at Moroni or Mutsamudu are broken down and moved on to shops on Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli, and that second leg belongs to the importer.

Which makes carton design commercial rather than incidental. Case weight, pieces per carton and pallet figures are stated per line, because a unit sized for a mainland warehouse can be wrong once a consignment is split three ways. Where a line runs in more than one format, the offer says so.

Two regimes, one packing list

A single split governs the load. Chocolate and chocolate-coated lines are quoted temperature-controlled; Turkish delight, dragée and jelly travel dry. Both sit in one container, with the division shown on the list. Sensible loading months are settled before confirmation.

Two naming rules travel with it. A coating made on vegetable fat is a compound or a glaze, never chocolate, and the offer states which each line carries. The jar product is a spread. Anything outside the range — couverture, bulk chocolate by the kilo, raw nuts, dried fruit, cocoa, empty packaging, baklava, halva, tahini — is sourced on request, with composition and format confirmed before quoting.

Breadth is assembled line by line

Breadth is an arrangement, not a discount. Every article runs on its own line with its own wrapping format and printed film, and that line has its own minimum — so a minimum attaches to the line, not to the shipment. That is what lets one box carry four or five groups, none ordered deeper than an island shelf turns over.

Where no single line fills a container, several are consolidated into a mixed container and each appears separately on the list. Those figures move with format and are named per line in the written offer.

A page written to be read after the first email

Of the Arabic phrases tested here, not one carried more than twenty searches a month; French came to roughly 40 a month, and returns European wholesalers rather than producers. So the page is written to be read after the first message.

To answer in one pass we need the lines to quote; the format for each, bulk carton, retail box or jar; the port of arrival; and the importer of record named on the pack, who files the entry. Certificates are issued for our factory, theholder named per line; the origin document and the rules that apply are named in the offer. Own-brand artwork goes to print only on written approval. We quote FCA Gaziantep, FOB Mersin, CIF or DAP (how we work).

The table is only about $1.5 million. Is a full container realistic?

It is the practical unit, which is why the mix matters more than the depth. One box carries chocolate, dragée, Turkish delight and wrapped confectionery together, with the minimum set per line rather than per shipment, so no single category has to be ordered deeper than an island shelf turns over.

How long does the shipment take, and is the sailing direct?

The call is not a direct one, so a transshipment port sits in the middle of the voyage and is named in the offer along with the port of discharge, Moroni or Mutsamudu as your file requires. Transit is quoted for the actual routing at the time of booking rather than stated in advance on a page.

Can chocolate travel with Turkish delight in one container?

Yes, with the split visible on the packing list: chocolate and chocolate-coated lines temperature-controlled, Turkish delight, dragée and jelly dry. Sensible loading months and the cost of the controlled part are settled before confirmation. We quote FCA Gaziantep, FOB Mersin, CIF or DAP.
