Halaal

Halaal sweets and chocolate wholesale in South Africa: by certifier, per line

In Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg the question is not whether it is halaal but who certified it. Here is how a Turkish wholesale list answers that, line by line.

Halaal, spelled the South African way

South Africa has one of the most organised halaal markets anywhere, with certifying bodies whose marks the trade recognises on sight, and a wholesale sweets trade in Durban and Cape Town built around them. A Turkish producer’s certificate is from a Turkish or international body; the importer checks whether that body is recognised locally before the container is ordered. The offer makes that check possible by naming the holder and the body for every line and attaching copies.

What the certifier looks at

Sugar, cocoa and nuts are not the issue. The points a certifier checks in confectionery are the ingredients that can come from an animal or from alcohol: gelatin in jellies and some Turkish delight recipes, the source of emulsifiers, flavour carriers, glazing agents on polished dragées, and colours. A certificate is issued to a producer for named products after those points are checked at the plant; it is not a property of a country or a product type.

Which lines usually qualify

Starch-set Turkish delight, sugared almonds and chocolate dragées, pistachio chocolate and pistachio cream are the lines a halaal list is usually built around, because the recipes carry few of the sensitive ingredients. Jellies and gummy sweets depend on the gelatin and the recipe; polished dragées depend on the glazing agent; chocolate depends on the emulsifier and the flavouring. None of this is decided on this page. It is decided by the certificate for our factory, per line, in the offer. The confectionery page and the chocolate page list the groups.

Halaal sweet boxes and gift trays

Halaal sweet boxes wholesale, Eid trays, corporate gifts for Ramadan: the Durban and Cape Town gift trade packs certified lines into boxes under its own name. Dragées by colour, mini bars, Turkish delight boxes and pistachio cream jars fit it, with the certificate per line and the label content prepared before printing. The South African private label page lists the formats.

Building the list

Send the product references and say the list must be halaal-certified, and by which bodies if you have a preference. The offer comes back with the certificate holder and body per line, the lines without a certificate marked, and copies available on request; Ramadan and Eid ranges are quoted ahead of the season. One container carries the certified lines next to the rest, each on its own pallet, into Durban or Cape Town. The South Africa page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Asking for a price

A first message is short: references from the confectionery page, quantities, port. The offer that comes back is not — it carries the specification, the pallet plan and the minimum, line by line.

Samples are free from our running production and the courier is paid before dispatch. The south africa: what stays the same on every offer page lists what stays the same on every offer, and the private label page covers putting your own name on the pack.

Is everything on this site halaal?

No blanket claim is made. Certificates are held for our factory; the offer names the holder and the certifying body per line and marks lines without one.

Will a Turkish certificate be recognised in South Africa?

The importer checks the certifying body’s recognition locally before ordering; the offer names the body per line so that check can be made.

Are the jellies halaal?

It depends on the gelatin and the recipe; the offer states it per line rather than by product type.
