Seventh place is a fact, not an argument
A shelf of $13.1 million is small enough that the people filling it know each other’s assortments, and large enough that a container arrives full. Turkish chocolate already sits on it in seventh position, confectionery in twelfth. Nobody there needs telling that Türkiye makes confectionery.
So «try Türkiye» answers a question settled several shipments ago. The open questions are narrower: which line the existing Turkish supplier does not carry, whether the producer of that line will run it in the format you need, and how much of the answer arrives in writing.
The gap is a line, not a country
Put two lists side by side: what you already buy out of Türkiye, and what you take from the 40.4% arriving from the United States because nobody has quoted it closer. The space between them is the brief.
In practice that space is usually one of four things — a pistachio line the current supplier does not make, a dragée format nobody has priced for you, lokum in a size that suits a shelf rather than a gift box, or jelly sweets in a bulk carton for a weigh-out counter. Send the item and we check it against our lines, rather than send a catalogue back to you.
Bulk carton or retail pack, and whose name is on it
Format decides more than the recipe. The same chocolate-covered dragée is a different commercial product in a carton sold by weight and in a printed retail box: the second carries artwork, a barcode, an English label and a longer lead time, because printing sits in front of production.
Whose brand appears is the second fork. A producer’s own pack moves faster; your label is a separate conversation — text drafted from the technical specification, nothing printed without your written approval. Decide which before the quotation, not after.
CARICOM, and what this lane does not give you
Barbados trades inside the CARICOM common market and a carton loaded in Gaziantep arrives from outside it. Worth naming what therefore does not exist on this route: no A.TR movement certificate, which belongs to the customs-union lane into the European Union, and no EAC conformity mark, which belongs to the Eurasian regulations.
What travels instead is a per-line file: customs tariff heading, technical specification, ingredients and allergens, net weight, carton and pallet data. Your broker reads the duty from the heading on the day; we do not quote it. Certificates are issued for our factory.
What the container and the label have to agree on
Chocolate and chocolate-covered lines travel at +18 to +20 °C, so on a lane ending in the Caribbean a refrigerated container is quoted by default. If a dry box is preferred, that risk passes to the buyer in writing before loading. Lokum, dragée and jelly sweets travel dry and fill the space around them.
Two names have to be right. The jar product is a spread — sweetened, spoonable, for retail and for filling — not a pastry paste. A vegetable-fat coating is a cocoa glaze, not chocolate; the quotation states which, per line. Couverture, bulk chocolate by the kilo, raw nuts and cocoa sit outside the range and are sourced on request, with composition and format confirmed before quoting.
What to send
Four things make a quotation possible: the missing line or lines, the format for each, the shelf you are filling — supermarket, wholesale weigh-out, hotel and catering — and whether the label is yours. Delivery is quoted FCA Gaziantep, FOB Mersin (about three hours from the production door), CIF or DAP.
The answer comes back written, line by line: specification, minimum for that line, carton and pallet data, tariff heading. The sales unit is a full container or a full truck, but the minimum sits on the line, not the load, so a first shipment can hold several items in measured quantities. Payment is half at order, half before the container leaves, against loading photographs.
Türkiye is already seventh here — what would change with another supplier?
Probably not the country, but the assortment. The question worth asking is which line your current Turkish supplier does not make, in which format, and whether its producer will run it. That is a narrower brief than a catalogue and it gets a faster written answer.
Does A.TR or the EAC mark apply to a shipment into Barbados?
No. A.TR belongs to the customs-union route into the European Union and the EAC mark to the Eurasian regulations. Barbados sits in the CARICOM common market and the goods arrive from outside it, so entry runs on the tariff heading and the product file, read by your broker on the day.
Can one container carry several different lines?
Yes. The sales unit is a full container or a full truck, but the minimum is set per linewho makes it and written into the quotation. Each line travels on its own pallet under one packing list, so a first shipment can test several items at measured quantities.
