Montenegrin labelling and who declares what

Montenegro is not in the European Union, so a shipment clears under the country’s own food and customs rules. The importer files the declaration and answers for what the pack says. That makes the exporter’s task narrow and easy to check: hand over, line by line, the papers the label and the declaration are both built from.

Home  /  Blog  /  Montenegro is outside the EU: the importer files the declaration, so the exporter’s job is to hand over clean line-by-line paperwork the label can be built from.  ·

Who declares, and what the offer carries

There is no regional label file to copy across here. The importer registers the goods and carries the compliance responsibility, so the label text and the customs entry come from one source: our technical specification for that line.

The offer therefore names the customs tariff position for every line separately — a filled bar, a sugared almond and a jar of spread are not classified together. On the rate, the quotation states what applies on the day it is issued; the position is what we put in writing. Background sits on the Montenegro market page.

The Montenegrin label is written from the specification

The label is drafted from our technical specification and from nothing else: legal product name, ingredients in descending order, allergens declared the way the specification declares them, net weight, storage conditions and the manufacturer’s identification. Translation is where errors enter, so the source line is checked beside the translated one.

For a buyer’s own label the artwork and the wording change, but the discipline does not: we draft, you read, and nothing goes to print without written approval — yours. The route is described on the private label page.

Check the product name before the plate is cut

Two names cause most reprints. A shell built on vegetable fat is a cocoa glaze, and a glaze is not chocolate, so it is not named as chocolate on the pack. Which one a line carries is stated in the offer, not read off a photograph.

The jar is the second. Buyers search for a pistachio "pasta" or "krem", and that can be heard as the confectioner’s 100% pistachio pastry paste. What we quote is a spread — a spread, not a cream, and not a bakery filling paste. If pastry grade is what is meant, that is a different request and we say so before quoting.

Certificates stay for our factory

Certificates, analysis reports and specifications belong to the factory that made the goods and are issued for our factory. We issue no certificates ourselves; copies are available on request, so the importer’s file and the pallets describe the same thing.

Where a line comes from a second producer, its papers arrive under that second name. Stated plainly, a mixed shipment reads cleanly at the border; hidden, it is what stops a container.

One container, several lines, two temperature regimes

The minimum is set per line, not per container: our factory fixes it per line and the offer prints it. That is what lets a first order carry six or seven items in measured quantities. Each line travels on its own pallet under one packing list — see the mixed container page.

Temperature splits the load. Chocolate and chocolate-coated lines travel at +18/+20 °C, and in hot months a refrigerated container is what we quote; if a dry container is preferred, the temperature risk passes to the buyer in writing, before loading. Lokum, sugared almonds and jellies go dry all year.

What to send

Send the lines you want with the format for each — retail box, bulk carton, jar — the label language, whether it is our standard label or your own, and the delivery town. If you have a layout, send it; if not, we draft from the specification. The exchange is described on the how we work page.

Back from us, per line: technical specification, ingredients and allergens, net weight, case and pallet data, minimum, analysis report and customs tariff position, with invoice and packing list following the order. Written, within two working days.

Who is responsible for the label being correct in Montenegro?

The importer files the declaration and carries the compliance responsibility under Montenegro’s own food and customs rules. Our part is to supply, line by line, the technical specification, the ingredient and allergen statement, net weight and the analysis report the label and the entry are built from — and to put the customs tariff position for each line in the offer.

Can the coating be described as chocolate on the label?

Only where the line is actually chocolate. A shell built on vegetable fat is a cocoa glaze and is not named as chocolate on the pack. The offer states which one each line carries, so the wording is settled before artwork goes to print.

Is the jar the same as pistachio pastry paste?

No. The jar is a spread for the retail shelf — a spread, not a cream — and not the 100% pistachio paste used as a bakery filling and flavouring. That is outside the main range; if it is what is wanted, we confirm composition and format before quoting.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.

Send your product list with approximate quantities and the destination port. You get one offer covering every line, then one container, loaded and photographed before the doors close.
