Sudanese wedding favours: sugared almonds, dragées, wrapped sweets and gift boxes, by the carton, from Gaziantep

A Sudanese wedding runs for days and every day has its sweets, and the Eid table is dressed the same way. Here is what the occasion trade buys by the carton, how the cartons are filled in Gaziantep, and how a trader or an importer buys them. Sugar-shelled almonds travel dry and chocolate-coated dragées travel with the chocolate lines, so the mix decides how much of the freight is refrigerated.

The occasions

The henna night, the wedding itself and the days around it, the visits after a birth, the two Eids: each one puts sweets and chocolate in front of guests and sends some home with them. The traders that serve those occasions buy sugared almonds by colour, chocolate dragées in milk, dark and white, coated almonds and hazelnuts, wrapped sweets for the bags and boxed assortments for the table. The dragée page and the confectionery page list the groups.

By colour, by the carton

Sugared almonds come one colour per carton or mixed, in the whites, golds and the strong colours the occasion trade asks for; chocolate dragées and coated nuts in a matching range; wrapped sweets by the kilo bag. The case weight per line is stated in the offer, so a trader knows how many tables a carton dresses before it orders, and the colours can be run to your own palette on selected lines under the private label page, with the cartons carrying your name.

Eid and the calendar

Eid comes twice a year and the weddings cluster around it and around the cooler months, so a trader plans the whites and golds for the year and the seasonal colours a container ahead. The Eid ordering article goes through the timing from Gaziantep; the offer states the lead time per line and the transit to Port Sudan.

Dry or reefer

Sugared almonds, wrapped sweets and Turkish delight travel dry all year and sit on a warm shelf without complaint; chocolate dragées, coated nuts and boxed assortments go in the reefer, year round on this route, and need a cool room until the day. A trader that plans the two separately, almonds and sweets for the bags, chocolate for the table, sells both.

Who buys the container

A trader buys by the carton from a wholesaler or an importer; the importer fills the container. Because the container is mixed, the occasion lines travel on their own pallet next to wafers, wrapped bars and Turkish delight, so a wholesaler that serves the occasion trade adds the favour lines to an order it was making anyway. A large trader that holds the import licence and pools a container is quoted like an importer, with the price per line in US dollars and the duty that applies on the day in the offer.

What to send first

The lines from the chocolate page, the confectionery page and the dragée page, the quantity per line, and whether any line carries your own brand. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars, with the certifying body named per line; the samples page explains how to taste the lines first, and the Sudan page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Every line here is made in our own factory at Başpınar OSB, Gaziantep — a 10,000 m² site, exporting since 2002 — and certificate copies are available on request.

Can a wedding trader order directly?

The unit of sale is one full container, mixed across lines. A trader buys by the carton from the importer or wholesaler; one that holds the import licence and pools a container is quoted like an importer.

Which colours?

One colour per carton or mixed, in the range the occasion trade asks for; the offer lists the colours and the case weight per line.

Do sugared almonds need a reefer?

No, they travel dry. Chocolate dragées and boxed assortments travel in the reefer with the chocolate lines, year round on this route.
