Dubai chocolate in Libya: the bar behind the searches, and where the pistachio comes from

The bar reached Tripoli and Benghazi through a phone screen, and the searches ask who has it. Here is what the bar is, why most of the filling comes from Gaziantep, which shelf it can live on, and what an importer buys.

The bar

A thick milk chocolate shell filled with pistachio cream and toasted kadayif, the shredded pastry Libya knows from its own sweets. The name comes from the city where it went viral; the filling comes from further north. Pistachio is grown around Gaziantep and kadayif is made there in the same streets, which is why we were making pistachio and kadayif fillings long before the bar had a name, and why the bar is now made there in retail, gift and catering formats.

Where the searches go

Where to buy, the price, the supermarkets of Tripoli and Benghazi, and the sweet shops that make their own version. An importer reads those searches differently: the demand is proven, the shelf is already asking, and a shelf-stable bar with a producer behind it, dated on the pack and with the halal paperwork settled, is what the trade is missing. The chocolate page lists the bar and the pistachio tablets next to it; pistachio cream in jars, the filling on its own, is on the pistachio page.

The shelf question

This bar is chocolate, and in Libya that decides where it can be sold: the supermarket with a chiller, the gift shop, the airport, not the grocery in the afternoon sun. It travels in a reefer year round on this route and is stated as chocolate on the offer, next to the compound lines that go to the everyday shelf. An importer that plans the two shelves separately sells both.

The price question

For a shopper the price is set by the shop; for an importer it is in the offer: the price per bar in US dollars, the case count, the pallet plan, the tariff line, the duty that applies on the day and the banking route that applies on the day. Nothing that changes with the exchange rate or the season is printed on this site. The Libya page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Under whose name

In our standard packs from the first container, or under your own brand: the Libyan private label page goes through the formats, the Arabic label content and the artwork approval. A sweet shop that wants its own name on a bar it does not have to make itself has a producer for it, and the pistachio cream and the kadayif filling are sold on their own for the ones that pour their own shells.

What to send first

The lines from the chocolate page, the confectionery page and the dragée page, the quantity per line, the port, Misrata, Benghazi, Khoms or Tripoli, and whether any line carries your own brand. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars, with the certifying body named per line; the samples page explains how to taste the lines first, and the Libya page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Is Dubai chocolate made in Dubai?

The name comes from where it went viral. The pistachio and the kadayif come from around Gaziantep, and the bars and fillings we quote are made there.

Do you sell the filling on its own?

Yes: pistachio cream in jars and pails, and the kadayif filling, from us, in the formats the offer states.

Does the bar need a reefer?

Yes, year round on this route, and a chilled shelf at the other end; it is stated as chocolate on the offer.
