Importing chocolate and confectionery to Libya from Türkiye: the label, the conformity check and the port

An importer wants to know what to hold and what the supplier must send before a container clears at Misrata or Benghazi. Here is the split from the supplier’s side, with the label first, because it is the part most often sent late.

The Arabic label

Arabic on the label, with English alongside if you want it: the name of the food, the ingredient list with allergens, metric net weight, storage, the importer’s name and address, and the production and expiry dates printed on the pack in production rather than added on a sticker. For lines in our standard packs we confirm what the export pack carries before the deposit; for private label we prepare the content from our data sheet and you approve the artwork before printing. The Libyan private label page goes through it.

Halal and the conformity check

Lines with ingredients of animal origin, gelatine in jellies above all, travel with our halal certificate, and the offer names the certifying body per line. Where a line falls under the pre-shipment conformity programme in force, the appointed agency inspects before shipment; we arrange it, and the offer states what each line needs and what applies on the day, because the requirements change. Nothing is loaded that cannot clear, and where a certificate is asked for that we do not hold, the offer says so before the deposit rather than after the container has sailed.

Who holds what

The importer holds the import licence and the registration and clears the consignment at the port, where the goods are checked against the Libyan standard. As the Turkish producer we do not register in Libya; we supply the technical data sheet, our certificates and the analysis report per line, sent before the deposit so the importer’s side runs first. An importer that has cleared our lines once clears the next lines faster, because the file the check asks for is already assembled.

Customs, the banking route and the documents

There is no free trade agreement in force between Libya and Türkiye; the offer states the tariff line per product and the duty that applies on the day, and the banking route that applies on the day, and nothing about either is printed on this site. The commercial set is the invoice, the packing list per pallet, the certificate of origin, the analysis report and, for pistachio lines, an aflatoxin certificate, listed on the how we work page, with the halal and conformity certificates per line where they apply.

The route and the reefer

Sea freight from Mersin to Misrata, Benghazi, Khoms or Tripoli, with the transshipment and the transit stated in the offer. Chocolate lines are quoted in a reefer year round and stated as chocolate; compound-coated lines for the everyday shelf are stated as compound; Turkish delight, sugared almonds and jellies travel dry. An importer that has cleared our lines once clears the next lines faster, because the data sheets and certificates are already on file. The Libya page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Every line here is made in our own factory at Başpınar OSB, Gaziantep — a 10,000 m² site, exporting since 2002 — and certificate copies are available on request.

Does the Turkish producer register in Libya?

No. The importer holds the licence and the registration; we supply the data sheet, certificates and analysis report per line, named in the offer.

Who arranges the conformity inspection?

We do, with the appointed agency, for the lines that fall under the programme in force; the offer states what each line needs and what applies on the day.

Is the container a reefer?

For chocolate lines, yes, year round on this route. Compound lines and dry lines are quoted as the offer states.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.

Send your product list with approximate quantities and the destination port. You get one offer covering every line, then one container, loaded and photographed before the doors close.
