Dubai chocolate in New Zealand: the bar behind the searches, and where it is actually made

New Zealand searched for one bar more than for any other chocolate this year. Here is what the bar is, why most of it is made in Gaziantep rather than Dubai, and who brings it into the country.

The bar

A thick milk chocolate shell filled with pistachio cream and toasted kadayif, the shredded pastry that gives the bite its crunch. The name comes from the city where it went viral; the filling comes from further east. Pistachio is grown around Gaziantep and kadayif is made there in the same streets, which is why we were making pistachio and kadayif fillings long before the bar had a name, and why the bar is now made in Gaziantep in retail, gift and catering formats.

Where the searches go

Supermarket queries, cafés in Auckland and Wellington that make their own, online shops that sell a single bar by courier, and the price question. An importer reads those searches differently: the demand is proven, the local supply is small batch and expensive, and a shelf-stable bar with a producer behind it is what the trade is missing. The chocolate page lists the bar and the pistachio tablets next to it; pistachio cream in jars, the filling on its own, is on the pistachio page.

What the New Zealand entry needs

Milk chocolate contains dairy and the filling contains nuts, so the biosecurity import conditions apply and the importer checks them per line before ordering; our data sheet with the origin of the dairy ingredients is what that check needs, and it comes with the offer. The label follows the Food Standards Code, with the importer’s name and address on it. The route crosses the tropics, so the bar travels in a reefer in every season.

The price question

Dubai chocolate NZ price is the second most searched form of the query, and for a shopper the answer is set by the courier and the small batch. For an importer the answer is in the offer: the price per bar in US dollars, the case count, the pallet plan and the tariff line, with the duty that applies on the day. Nothing that changes with the exchange rate or the season is printed on this site. A bar that lands by the pallet and sits on a supermarket shelf is a different product, at a different price, from a bar that arrives by courier, and that gap is what the searches are pointing at.

Under whose name

In our standard packs from the first container, or under your own brand: the New Zealand private label page goes through the formats, the label content and the artwork approval. A brand that wants to be first with a bar of its own on a New Zealand shelf has a producer for it.

What to send first

The lines from the chocolate page, the dragée page and the Turkish delight page, the quantity per line, the port, Auckland, Tauranga or Lyttelton, and whether any line carries your own brand. The written offer follows within two working days, in US dollars and the technical data sheets the biosecurity check needs; the samples page explains how to taste the lines first, and the New Zealand page lists what stays the same on every offer.

Every line here is made in our own factory at Başpınar OSB, Gaziantep — a 10,000 m² site, exporting since 2002 — and certificate copies are available on request.

Is Dubai chocolate made in Dubai?

The name comes from where it went viral. The pistachio and the kadayif come from around Gaziantep, and the bars we quote are made there.

Can a café or a shop order a few cartons?

The unit of sale is one full container, mixed across lines. A shop buys from the importer that brings it in; every line is in the offer.

Does the bar need a reefer?

Yes, year round on this route: the container crosses the tropics in every season.

How to order

Send the list. We do the rest.
